The story of a man and his passion for antique furniture

His first piece of renovation

The first piece of furniture he gave a second life thanks to the renovation of leather and the restoration of old leather was a club chair with a mustache back in the 1940s. , This beautiful vintage furniture! For the restoration, he entirely rebuilt the bellows and the seat. The padding was done with vegetable hair. And the padding of the cushion with, among others, feathers. The leather was vintage, very old. He had to renovate it completely: he skated old-fashioned leather, and restored the armrests and arm-rests of new leather, which he skated in the old fashion. But underneath, there were straps and no-sag springs! So he was able to restore life to this old armchair club with mustache back. Once the leather armchair was renovated, it was almost unrecognizable, so it was beautiful!

Renovation and restoration on request

But it is not just old club chairs, old club sofas and vintage furniture that Thierry Perrodou buys and renovates with the aim of reselling them afterwards. Indeed, this quality craftsman also takes care of your armchairs club and any other armchair, sofa etc., when they are made of leather. Because the know-how of the leather workshop - Brittany, as its name indicates, is the work of leather: leather furniture. Often, people have an old old club chair in their home. This vintage furniture has, in many cases, already seen better days: Old leather is damaged, cracked, even broken. The seat is no longer comfortable, perhaps even the springs stand out or the vegetable horsehair padding is visible. The straps hang, the springs have become soft. Then, they come to the leather workshop - Brittany, where he is breathed new life: Thierry Perrodou inspects the club chair, he judges whether the old leather can be saved or not. In all cases, the leather armchair will be laid bare, up to the wooden frame. Then the craftsman replaces the springs with springs no-sag or nosag, as well as the straps. These can be tightened to ensure a firmer footing. Then, it is with the vegetable hair padding that it proceeds. Everything is done the old way, Thierry Perrodou even tries to reuse the old brass nails! Often the leather of the cushion of the seat is too damaged, just like the leather of the armrests. So we have to replace it. In the leather workshop only cowhide leather is used, as this leather is more robust. This guarantees a longer life for the club chair. All at the end, the new leather is colored like the old leather. Thus, the club chair regains its appearance and original appearance while being completely renovated and restored.

In the end, the old club armchair returns to its full splendor of its original era : Whether it is the 1920s, the 1930s, the 1940s or the 1950s. So, this beautiful vintage furniture becomes, or becomes again, the flagship room of the show.
